Men’s Annual Presentation of Prizes 2008

Royal Montrose Golf Club held its annual presentation of prizes for men on Friday 7th November. The guest speaker for the evening was the highly respected and well known golf professional David Huish from North Berwick.

David has been the professional at North Berwick since 1967, and is due to retire in April of 2009, when he will be succeeded by his son Martyn.

During his career David has successfully won many titles and is now playing on the Seniors Tour where he has won 5 competitions throughout Europe. He is a highly respected figure on the inside of golf,  being a past captain of the PGA, and the longest serving Ryder Cup committee member with vast experience of numerous Ryder Cups,

He is most fondly remembered for leading the world’s best golfers at the Open in Carnoustie in 1975, when after 36 holes he led Tom Watson, Peter Oosterhuis, and Bernard Gallacher by two shots, with rounds of 67 & 69.

David recalled his experiences both as an assistant, and as a professional and advised us that his two favourite courses were obviously not only Carnoustie, but also Montrose as it was here, in the Scottish Professional Golf Championship in 1970 that he believes he played his best golf with a fantastic round of 63, which included a lost ball at the 8th.

David presented the winners with their trophies’ which included presentations to our new Club Champion Joshua Clarke, and a special presentation to Ross Coull on winning the Scottish Mid- Amateur Title this year at Dundonald Links.

After an excellent meal the members and guests retired to enjoy some well earned hospitality for all their efforts on the Links this year.
